Sci Fi Dad’s post today - Of Trucks and Gender inspired my choice for today’s photo This is from March of my 2008 Photo a Day project. These were the boys’ favorite books at the time. One copy of Happy Baby Things that Go and two copies of My First Truck Book.  These were actually copies 3 & 4 of those books, the first 2 having been read to pieces in the previous couple years.

Spring Break

We’re having Spring Break here. The boys have Mon-Wed off instead of the whole week as had been planned.  DH has Mon-Tues off so we are making the most of it. The weather has been perfect so we’re busy with yard work, finishing the chicken coop and the boys have been creating puddles by the swings to swing over a la Indiana Jones. We’ve grilled and eaten dinner on the shade porch 3 night in a row and will tonight as well. It’s almost like summer is here. I’ll be back to my regular blogging on Thursday with some photos

My past has caught up with me

This is from April 2008, but every word of it is still true today. ..except the part about Havoc not being able to read I've been expecting this moment for years now. Ever since I was at my 13 week nuchal screen and my OB said "You want to know the sex?" and told me it was a boy, I have known it was coming & I have been dreading it. I drove past a sign today that said "Cal Ripkin Baseball sign ups. Ages 5-12. Parks & Rec Dept". Havoc is 5. Hell. Saying "I hate little league baseball" does not begin to convey how I feel about little league baseball. I carry around a grudge the size of Wrigley Field toward little league baseball. It ruined my childhood, or at least the summers anyway. I *resent* little league baseball. Resent it with all the feeling a 10 year old who has just been told AGAIN that she can't have a party on her birthday because her brother has a game that day, can feel. Little league baseball was a blight on my life for a...

Just a smoothie

Image
I don’t drink smoothies in the fall & winter. Smoothies are a warm weather drink, like milkshakes and ice cream. Except of course for random weather induced Blizzard cravings and really…54 inches of snow in 2 weeks…I deserved a DQ Blizzard. But it’s spring now and I’ve been in the mood for smoothies. They make lunch so much easier for me when there are no leftovers. They keep me from making pepperoni rolls. They are sweet and if I add protein powder are nutritionally rounded. Several of us were talking about smoothies we like to make the other day. I said something along the lines of “lately I go with mango, frozen berries, V8 Frusion and some yogurt” I had the least amount of adjectives of anyone in the group, having a total of only 1 adjective – frozen. Everyone else’s smoothies were full of adjectives – organic, local, homegrown, homemade, hand juiced, farmer’s market, in season, fresh, high protein and popular buzz words – Greek yogurt, flax meal, spinach flakes. Like i...
