Ancient technology

This is an unretouched photo of a 5.25” floppy disk I unearthed while cleaning the junk closet.

It holds 1.2MB of storage.

That’s not even enough to store the full sized photo of itself.

I think it is blank because there is no label on it. But we’ll never know for sure because no one I know has a drive capable of reading it. I last had a drive capable of reading it in 1996.

Yeah, I’ve been hanging on to a possibly blank disc I have no way of reading for almost 13 years.

I’m thinking I might start calling the junk closet my “antique closet”.

Someday, far in the future my technologically advanced descendants will find it and wonder what secrets I might have left behind on the unreadable mystery disk. 

Obviously, not photos.

    Isn't it amazing how far technology has come? Have you decided to finally throw away the old floppy??

    LOL Gosh it has been ages since I have seen one of those. I'd hold on to it, maybe it will be worth something one day!

I thought I was too late to sign up for it because I was a couple days behind on reading Mel’s blog, but then she contacted me and asked if I could do a post about punctuation. Punctuation? Yes. Weekly Winners Aug 24-30

Mayhem decided to take up knitting this week. He found he had plenty of time to knit in the car while we ran errands Oops! Dropped a stitch The dinosaurs were very busy the other afternoon. Once again they requested muffins and they pitched in to make them. Though there was some conflict over who got to stir. Rumors of muffins attracted other dinosaurs And there was some more conflict over control of the bowl The winners circle the bowl in a victory dance But they shouldn't celebrate too soon, because over on the kitchen table trouble is brewing. Revisiting the past

I went to the Maryland Renaissance Festival this weekend.  I went with some friends. It was our annual coven outing so we went without spouses or children. I have not been unencumbered at the Fair since 2002. It was liberating!  It also made me very nostalgic. The first store we went into was a pottery shop. It was the people who made this bowl. I bought it from them in 1997 It is currently on my kitchen island full of recently picked apples. They had been a guest vendor in 1997. They had a single weekend spot in a temporary pavilion near the jousting arena. Over the years they progressed to a tiny shop on a side corner to a shop in the back row, to this one, on the main road. The temporary pavilion is long gone, replaced with a permanent building. The next shop was Catskill Mountain Moccasins. They've been in the same place since we started coming to the Fair.
