First day of school

Yesterday the boys went back to school, starting kindergarten & the first grade.

They were excited but a bit dubious

We made the long hike up & down the driveway

We were early because we were told ‘sometime between 7:15-7:20’. We were at the end of the driveway at 7:10 and the bus didn’t come until 7:22.  Not sure yet if that is the firm arrival time or not, but every extra minute helps when you can’t find socks in the morning.

I feel like I ought to write something sentimental here about my baby starting kindergarten, but I went through all those feeling last year when I put him on the bus for pre-K. And the last 2 weeks have been no joy for the three of us. We are all sick & tired of being together. We need a break. They are excited to be someplace different doing new things and I am excited to finally be able to get some things done around the house that i have been wanting to do for months.

Give me a few days. I’ll probably all maudlin about the passage of time sometime early next week, once the initial excitement dies down.

    From the pics of the two of them together, they look like the best of friends :) Enjoy some quiet time. Does your K go a full day or come home half day?

    Starting school on a Wednesday? What's the reason for that?

    My daughter will take a bus to school as well, although she is not allowed to take it the first day (she starts JK - junior kindergarten). I'm considering taking the morning off work for her first bus day, but that's probably because I'm crazy.

    I think I'll feel the same way on the first day of school. If I'm feeling generous, I may just wait for the bus to slow down before I fling them on it.

I thought I was too late to sign up for it because I was a couple days behind on reading Mel’s blog, but then she contacted me and asked if I could do a post about punctuation. Punctuation? Yes. Weekly Winners Aug 24-30

Mayhem decided to take up knitting this week. He found he had plenty of time to knit in the car while we ran errands Oops! Dropped a stitch The dinosaurs were very busy the other afternoon. Once again they requested muffins and they pitched in to make them. Though there was some conflict over who got to stir. Rumors of muffins attracted other dinosaurs And there was some more conflict over control of the bowl The winners circle the bowl in a victory dance But they shouldn't celebrate too soon, because over on the kitchen table trouble is brewing. Chillin’

A month or so ago I cleaned out my freezer . Yesterday I cleaned my refrigerator. This is a different thing than just cleaning it out. Cleaning it out mostly involves taking most of the food off of the shelves, sorting it and putting the good stuff back. Maybe wiping up some visible spills. But not getting behind or under things or dealing with the bottles on the door. Cleaning it involves taking all the food out, all the bins out, plus disassembling the shelves and scrubbing them & the inside of the fridge all clean. This happens as rarely as the freezer cleaning for much the same reasons – it’s cold, my hands cramp up from the scrubbing and the solid yet still gel like substances that accumulate in dark forgotten corners are a PITA to get clean. Plus the heavy tempered glass shelves are too big to fit in the kitchen sink and have to be washed in the bathtub. Which means I then I have to wash the bathtub. And mop. I never manage to clean the fridge without getting dirty wate
